Can You Treat Fibroids Without Surgery?

About 60–80 percent of the women of the reproductive age are known to have Fibroids, which are growths found in the uterus. While most women have Fibroids, these remain dormant, not causing any symptoms. These Fibroids may be found during routine pelvic exams or CT scans (shape of the uterus), providing evidence of their existence.

  • You may have a longer period that may or may not be accompanied by heavy bleeding
  • You may notice bleeding or spotting between two periods
  • Some pressure or pain in the pelvic region
  • Persistent backache or pain the leg
  • Unable to get pregnant
  • Constipation or problem emptying the bladder

How are Fibroids diagnosed?

  • A Wait-and-Watch Approach: Fibroids hardly ever interfere with pregnancies, and in most cases, lie dormant until they shrink during the menopausal phase. Typically, most women who have fibroids do not experience any symptoms or signs. If there are any signs, it may be minimal or merely an annoyance (which you may choose to ignore). In such circumstances, most Gynaecologists advise following a wait-and- watch approach.
  • Medicines: Typically, the medicines Gynaecologists suggest tackle symptoms such as heavy bleeding or irregular menstrual cycles. Such medications may not remove the fibroids but they may shrink them. Apart from this, there are other Gonadotropin- Releasing Hormone Agonists (GnRH), which are specifically given to treat fibroids. It blocks the production of Oestrogen and Progesterone, creating a menopause-like state in your body. Often, this helps to improve Anaemia, stop Menstrual Cycles, and shrink the Fibroids.
  • Healthier Lifestyle: Studies show that eating healthily and exercising consistently puts you at a lower risk of Fibroids. Make sure you are eating balanced food- foods belonging to all groups and that have a good portion of healthy fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals. Exercise and physical activity are known to prevent lifestyle-related diseases. Exercising regularly can contribute to a healthier weight, keeping Fibroids at bay.
